DSS Seeks Court Order to Bar Pat Utomi from Holding Rallies

The Department of State Services (DSS) has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an interlocutory injunction to restrain Professor Pat Utomi and his associates from organizing or participating in public gatherings, including rallies, road shows, lectures, and media publications.

The DSS’s motion is based on concerns that such activities promote the idea of a “shadow government,” which the agency views as a potential threat to national security and public order.

The agency’s legal action aims to prevent any form of public enlightenment programs that could undermine the authority of the current government or incite unrest.

This development underscores the government’s vigilance in monitoring political activities that may challenge its legitimacy or disrupt public peace.

As the case unfolds, it raises important questions about the balance between national security and the rights to free expression and assembly in Nigeria’s democratic context.
