Defense Counsel Protests N12.3 Billion Fraud Charge Against Honeywell Group Chairman Oba Otudeko

Counsel to the Chairman of the Honeywell Group, Oba Otudeko, appeared before the Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday to protest the N12.3 billion fraud charge brought against him.

Bode Olanipekun (SAN), who represents Otudeko and two other defendants, expressed his dissatisfaction in court, stating that the charges had not been properly served on his client and the other co-defendants.

Olanipekun, who is also the counsel for former FirstBank Plc. Managing Director Olabisi Onasanya and former Honeywell board member Soji Akintayo, argued that the charge, which was filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had not been delivered to the accused parties as required by law.

The EFCC has brought a 13-count charge against Otudeko, Onasanya, Akintayo, and their company, Anchorage Leisure Ltd. The anti-graft agency alleges that the defendants obtained the sum of N12.3 billion under false pretenses. The case is set to proceed as the court addresses the issues raised by the defense counsel.
