Defections: PDP Calls Emergency Meeting to Halt ‘Hurricane Tinubu’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting as the wave of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) intensifies. This urgent move comes amid concerns over what some party members are describing as “Hurricane Tinubu” — a strategy allegedly designed to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Several high-profile figures, including former governors and influential stakeholders, have recently switched allegiance to the APC, sparking internal fears within the PDP that the party could be heading toward a political collapse if decisive action is not taken.

Sources within the party reveal that discussions will focus on reconciliation, revitalizing party structures, and repositioning ahead of future elections.

Party insiders also disclosed that there is growing pressure on the PDP leadership to reengage founding fathers, reconcile aggrieved members, and forge strategic alliances.

The PDP, once the dominant party in Nigeria, is facing one of its most challenging moments yet as it struggles to maintain relevance in a rapidly shifting political landscape.
