Davido Reunites with Daughter Imade — Why It Matters

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has reunited with his first daughter, Imade Adeleke, in a moment that marks a significant turn in a long-standing custody battle with her mother, Sophia Momodu.
On May 28, 2025, Davido shared a touching photo of their reunion on his Instagram Story, captioning it, “Best day of my life.” The singer also posted a video call screenshot with his second daughter and a heartwarming picture of Imade with her grandfather, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Why This Reunion Is a Big Deal
The emotional meeting comes after two years of estrangement between Davido and Imade — a separation that led the artist to file a custody lawsuit in April 2024 at the Lagos State High Court. In his suit, Davido sought joint custody or unrestricted access to his daughter, then nine years old.
What Prompted the Legal Action?
Davido accused Sophia Momodu of intentionally blocking access to Imade, despite his claims of fulfilling his parental responsibilities. He cited payments of school fees, the provision of vehicles for transportation, and even offering a luxury ₦200 million apartment in Oniru, Victoria Island — which Momodu allegedly rejected.
Sophia Momodu’s Response
Momodu responded with a detailed 102-paragraph counter-affidavit, alleging that Davido had abandoned his responsibilities since their breakup in July 2022. She claimed that he withdrew from parenting when she refused to continue a sexual relationship, and that she had been solely responsible for Imade’s expenses — including unpaid school fees.
Momodu further questioned Davido’s fitness as a custodian, citing his high-profile lifestyle, frequent travel, and the tragic 2022 drowning of his son, Ifeanyi, as factors that raised concerns about Imade’s safety.
