The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed reports claiming it shut down its petrol processing unit for maintenance, insisting that fuel loading operations are continuing uninterrupted.
A senior spokesperson for the company told journalists on Sunday that Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, is actively being loaded at the facility located in Lekki, Lagos State.
“Loading of Premium Motor Spirit is ongoing as we speak,” the official confirmed, countering a Bloomberg report which alleged that the gasoline production unit at the 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery was temporarily shut down for repairs.
According to Bloomberg, the report citing an anonymous source claimed the refinery’s Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracker (RFCC), a key component in petrol production, was undergoing maintenance.
In response, the Dangote Refinery described the report as “false” and misleading.
“It is not true. Don’t believe everything you see online. People can go to the refinery to check for themselves,” the spokesperson said. “The report is a lie. We are loading fuel every day millions of litres are being dispatched. Anyone can visit the refinery to see the number of trucks leaving daily.”
The Dangote refinery, which began fuel production earlier this year, has been gradually lowering its pump prices, sparking competition in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector. Its pricing strategy has intensified a price war among fuel marketers as the country seeks more stable and affordable fuel supply.
