Dangote Refinery Confirms Capacity to Exceed Nigeria’s Fuel

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced its robust capacity to supply substantially more fuel than Nigeria’s current domestic consumption levels.

The refinery boasts the ability to deliver 75 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily, surpassing the estimated national consumption of 50 million litres.

In addition to PMS, the refinery can supply 25 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) daily, well above the estimated daily demand of 14 million litres.

Furthermore, it has the capacity to provide 20 million litres of aviation fuel per day, significantly exceeding the estimated maximum domestic consumption of four million litres.

The refinery emphasizes that maintaining supply volumes above current demand is critical for creating supply buffers, enhancing market stability, and mitigating the dependency on imports, especially during peak demand or logistical disruptions.

In a public notice, the management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery reiterated its capability to supply high-quality petroleum products to marketers and stakeholders, specifying daily offerings of 75 million litres of PMS, 25 million litres of AGO, and 20 million litres of aviation fuel.

Industry analysts have observed that exceeding estimated consumption levels can diminish the necessity for emergency imports, bolster inventory coverage, and enhance the resilience of Nigeria’s domestic supply chain.

The refinery also reaffirmed its dedication to complying with all regulatory requirements and maintaining cooperation with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), ensuring that its supply strategy aligns with efforts to stabilize the market and promote orderly downstream operations.

Furthermore, the refinery is actively engaging with regulators and industry stakeholders to support Nigeria’s national energy security goals, particularly as the country works to transition from fuel import dependence toward domestic refining.

With the expansion of domestic refining capacities, stakeholders believe Nigeria is better positioned to reduce foreign exchange dependency, enhance supply security, and improve downstream efficiency through locally produced petroleum products.
