The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals company has unveiled a strategic alliance with global petrochemical distribution leader, Vinmar Group, to export Dangote-branded polypropylene to international markets.
This development follows the refinery’s recent rollout of 25kg polypropylene bags for the Nigerian market in March, a move aimed at reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported polypropylene.
Currently, Nigeria imports around 90% of its annual polypropylene consumption approximately 250,000 metric tonnes underscoring the scale of the market opportunity for local producers.
“We’re excited to collaborate with Vinmar to introduce Dangote Polypropylene to global markets,” said Fatima Aliko Dangote, Executive Director at Dangote Group, during the facility’s launch on Wednesday.
The facility is positioning itself not only to satisfy domestic demand but also to emerge as a net exporter, enhancing Nigeria’s footprint in the global petrochemicals trade.
Once fully operational, the plant is expected to become the largest polypropylene production site in Africa, featuring two production lines with annual capacities of 500,000 and 330,000 metric tonnes, respectively bringing total output to 830,000 mt/year.
The collaboration with Vinmar is seen as a gateway to penetrate competitive international markets while strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base.
