Cucurella: I Was Terrified as Trump Refused to Leave Club World Cup Podium

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has revealed that he was left unnerved after U.S. President Donald Trump unexpectedly remained on stage during the Club World Cup trophy presentation.
Following Chelsea’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final, Trump, who had been invited to present the trophy, lingered on the stage among the jubilant players, causing confusion and tension during the celebratory moment.
Speaking to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Cucurella shared the surreal experience.
“We had been told Trump would come to present us with the trophy and that we couldn’t lift it until he left,” Cucurella recalled. “And of course, we were all there waiting for him to leave, but the guy didn’t want to leave.”
He continued: “We looked at him and he said, ‘Get him up, I’ll stay here, and so on.’ And I wondered who would say anything to him, you know… I was scared s***less!”
Trump’s unexpected presence during the ceremony added an unusual twist to Chelsea’s title celebrations, which saw Reece James eventually lift the trophy while the U.S. President stood among the players.
