The High Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the gruesome murder of Salome Adaidu, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.
In a judgment delivered by Justice Simon Aboki, the court found Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide after he was proven to have brutally killed and dismembered Adaidu. The judge described the act as “cold-blooded” and “beyond human comprehension,” noting that the evidence presented by the prosecution was overwhelming and left no room for doubt.
Ajayi was convicted under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, which prescribes the death penalty for culpable homicide punishable by death.
The case, which drew widespread public outrage and renewed calls for better protection of corps members, has finally reached a resolution after months of legal proceedings.
Justice Aboki emphasized that the court must uphold justice not only for the victim but also as a deterrent to others who may contemplate similar crimes.
