The Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of a content creator, Muhammad Kabir, for abusing and mutilating the Naira, following a ruling by Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna.
Kabir, was arrested on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in Tudun Wada, Kaduna State. His arrest followed the circulation of a video in which he was seen spraying, stepping on Naira notes, and making provocative statements in Hausa, including daring the EFCC to arrest him at his known location.
The EFCC apprehended Kabir for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of Nigeria’s currency.
The amended one-count charge read: “That you, Muhammad Kabir Sa’ad (a.k.a youngcee0066)(M), sometime in 2025 at Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did unlawfully mutilate the Naira by stepping on Naira banknotes while making a social media video and posting same on the internet, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007 and punishable under Section 21(1) of the same Act.”
Upon the reading of the charge, Kabir pleaded guilty, and the EFCC’s counsel, M.U. Gadaka, urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.
Justice Aikawa thereafter sentenced Kabir to six months imprisonment or, in the alternative, to pay a fine of ₦300,000 to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
