Court Imposes Ban on Nnamdi Kanu’s Sister-in-Law for Livestreaming Trial Proceedings

A Federal High Court in Abuja has imposed a three-session ban on Favour Kanu, the wife of Prince Fineboy Kanu, younger brother to the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, after she livestreamed court proceedings on her Facebook page.

Nnamdi Kanu is facing charges of terrorism, brought by the Federal Government, and his case has drawn significant public attention.

Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the case, issued the order after Mrs. Kanu admitted to streaming the session and apologized to the court for her actions.

Despite the apology, Justice Omotosho made it clear that Mrs. Kanu would be barred from attending the next three sessions of the trial.

The court’s decision came after Mrs. Kanu’s phone had been confiscated during a previous session when she was caught recording proceedings. Despite this action, she proceeded to post a video of the trial online, prompting the court’s stern response.

“I want to hear from you. Were you not the one whose phone I took?” Justice Omotosho asked, expressing surprise that she had disregarded the court’s authority. Although her husband, Prince Fineboy Kanu, confirmed her identity and apologized on her behalf, the judge remained firm in his decision, emphasizing that any actions causing delays in the trial would not be tolerated.

Justice Omotosho assured all parties involved that the court would continue to uphold its commitment to justice, warning against any further disruptions. The case has sparked continued debate, given the high profile of Nnamdi Kanu and the legal proceedings surrounding him.
