The Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council in Plateau State, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, has raised concerns over a resurgence of fake and substandard drugs in the area. The warning came shortly after he was formally installed as the Battalion Grand Patron of the Boys Brigade of Nigeria.
The investiture ceremony reportedly took place over the weekend at the Church of Christ in Nations RCC Headquarters, Kuffen, in Langtang North.
Tyem disclosed that he had personally experienced the effects of counterfeit medication and mentioned that the council’s Supervisory Councillor for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene had recently seized a cache of fake drugs in the locality.
He was said to have recounted falling ill a few months ago and receiving medication that proved ineffective because it was counterfeit, though he indicated that his vital organs were unharmed.
The chairman reportedly emphasized that his administration was committed to revitalizing the health sector and warned that anyone caught selling counterfeit drugs would face strict action. He reportedly noted that the health and education sectors remained top priorities for his administration.
