CNG adoption: NIPCO converts 15,000 vehicles

Nipco Gas Limited has announced the conversion of 15,000 vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and revealed that it has received Gas Distribution Licenses (GDL) from the Federal Government. The licenses were granted through the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

The company’s Managing Director, Nagendra Verma, shared this development with journalists in Lagos, highlighting that this achievement underscores Nipco Gas’s pioneering role in the sector and enhances investor confidence in Nigeria’s gas industry.

Verma explained, “The 25-year exclusivity period granted under these licenses prevents infrastructure duplication, ensuring efficiency and the optimal use of national resources.” The licenses awarded to Nipco Gas cover several regions, including:

Ibadan Axis (Ogere-Ibadan-Oluyole-Olorisaoko-Asejire-Ajoda) – Nipco Gas/NGML

Benin City – Nipco Gas

Lekki Free Trade Zone – Nipco Gas/NGML

Kara-Sagamu-Abeokuta-Ibadan Axis (Sagamu Interchange-Ibafo-Isheri-Otedola Bridge) – Nipco Gas/NGML

With these new licenses, Nipco Gas Ltd has become Nigeria’s largest indigenous licensed gas distribution company. Verma emphasized that this milestone is a testament to the company’s dedication and the continued support from its stakeholders.

Verma also highlighted the company’s strong operational performance, citing improvements in supply chain efficiency, the expansion of CNG infrastructure, increased customer satisfaction, and a growing market share.

He praised Delta State for providing land for a new facility, calling it a proactive and welcoming move. “We are confident that with this type of public-private partnership, it will accelerate the Presidential CNG initiative,” he concluded.
