Veteran musician and activist Charly Boy has voiced strong support for Davido after the singer faced backlash for identifying with the Igbo heritage, despite being Yoruba.
The controversy began after an X user, @yakbel, criticized Davido for associating closely with Igbo people, warning that he would eventually be betrayed. In response, Davido simply tweeted, “Lol, I AM IGBO by blood,” igniting widespread discussions on Nigeria’s deep-rooted tribal divisions.
On May 25, 2025, Charly Boy took to Instagram to commend Davido’s bold stance, calling his words both powerful and unifying.
“When a man knows who he is, no one can divide him with tribe. Davido saying ‘I am Igbo by blood’ is not just a statement—it’s a bridge. A reminder that we are more connected than we think. In a country scarred by tribalism, this is the kind of bold unity we need.”
Charly Boy also praised Davido for challenging societal norms that often pressure Nigerians to remain within strict ethnic boundaries—such as marrying within their tribe or limiting relationships. According to him, Davido is helping break that cycle.
