Canadian PM Carney Apologises to Trump Over Anti-Tariff Ad Featuring Reagan

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Saturday confirmed that he has apologised to U.S. President Donald Trump over an anti-tariff advertisement that used footage of former American President Ronald Reagan.

Trump had earlier announced a 10% increase in tariffs on Canadian goods and suspended all trade negotiations, accusing Canada of running what he described as a “fake” anti-tariff ad campaign.

Speaking to journalists in Gyeongju, South Korea, Carney said, “I did apologise to the President. The President was offended,” adding that trade discussions would resume once the United States is “ready.”
