A high-capacity Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle was engulfed by fire on Tuesday on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State, causing significant traffic disruption.
The bus was reportedly travelling towards Iyana Oworo when the blaze erupted near the Adekunle axis of the bridge. As of the time of reporting, there was no confirmed information on casualties.
The incident led to heavy traffic congestion on the bridge, prompting the swift deployment of firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading.
Confirming the development in a statement shared on X, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said emergency responders were actively working to bring the situation under control.
LASTMA added that its officers were already on ground managing traffic and working to ease congestion caused by the incident.
“A high-capacity bus is on fire on the Third Mainland Bridge by Adekunle, inwards Iyana Oworo, affecting traffic flow,” the agency stated.
“Firefighting efforts are ongoing, while our officers remain on site to manage the traffic situation.”
