Botswana Coach Frustrated After Last-Minute Loss to Super Falcons

Botswana head coach, Alex Malete, has voiced his disappointment following his team’s narrow 1-0 loss to the Super Falcons.
Despite putting up a determined display against the nine-time African champions, the Mares conceded in the final minute of regulation time, suffering their second consecutive defeat at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Botswana now face a must-win situation in their final group match against Tunisia to keep their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals alive.
Malete emphasized that his players were deserving of more from the tightly contested game against Nigeria.
“We deserved more, we deserved to get a point. It was all about showing the spirit we have in the team, and we have also shown a lot of quality. We take the positive, even though it was a painful loss,” the young coach said during the post-match press conference.
The result leaves Botswana at the bottom of Group B, with no points from their two group-stage games so far.
