Bimbo Akintola Says Infidelity, Polygamy Are Deep-Rooted in Nigerian Society

The actress argues that cultural upbringing normalizes cheating among men, making fidelity a rare expectation.

Nollywood veteran Bimbo Akintola has stirred conversation after declaring that infidelity and polygamy will remain part of Nigerian society.

Speaking on a podcast hosted by fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, the 55-year-old star argued that cheating is a cultural norm passed down through generations.

Akintola claimed that as many as 90 to 99 percent of Nigerian men are unfaithful to their partners, pointing to family structures where polygamy and infidelity are common.

“Your father cheats, your grandfather cheated, my father had two wives… It’s engraved in them. I’m not excusing it, I’m just being realistic,” she said.

Her remarks have sparked fresh debate on fidelity, gender expectations, and marriage in Nigeria—issues that remain highly sensitive in a society where cultural practices often clash with modern views on relationships.
