Bernardo Silva Named Manchester City Captain as Guardiola Skips Team Vote

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has appointed Bernardo Silva as the club’s new captain ahead of the 2025/26 season.

According to The Daily Mail, Guardiola made the decision himself without holding a team vote. Silva replaces Kevin De Bruyne, who departed the Etihad Stadium after his contract expired.

In addition to Silva’s promotion, Guardiola has also named Ruben Dias, Rodri, and Erling Haaland as vice-captains, forming the leadership group for the upcoming campaign.

Silva’s captaincy could be short-lived, however, as his current contract runs out next summer. Despite ongoing speculation, the Portuguese midfielder has yet to agree to a new deal with City.

In recent transfer windows, Silva has turned down multiple offers to leave the club. He remains a target for several Saudi Arabian sides, as well as former club Benfica, who are reportedly keen on a reunion.
