The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has indefinitely suspended his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning, Dr. Mkor Aondona, pending the outcome of an ongoing criminal probe.
This followed his arrest by the EFCC on allegations of sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail involving female students in Makurdi
The move was announced via an official statement by governor Alia’s spokesperson, Tersoo Kula, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy on unethical conduct within the administration. “Any official found wanting…will face the full weight of the law,” the statement declared
According to EFCC records, Dr. Aondona allegedly recruited young women under the pretense of ushering jobs, then demanded sexual favors, secretly recorded encounters, and threatened to release the footage if they refused further compliance
The allegations have sparked outrage across the state and beyond: women’s rights groups are calling for expedited legal proceedings and stricter protective measures for vulnerable students.
Critics argue that those in power often evade justice, urging the governor to ensure transparency.
Gov. Alia reiterated that the suspension serves both as a disciplinary action and a message that the rights and dignity of citizens especially the vulnerable are paramount.
The case now moves forward under the due process of law.
