The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four of its members for six months over an alleged attempt to impeach the Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, during a tense session on Thursday night.
Those affected are Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Terna Shimawua (Kian), Cyril Ekong (Obi), and James Umoru (Apa).
The decision followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the House Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, who accused the lawmakers of attempting to destabilise the Assembly with what he described as a needless crisis.
Acting on the resolution, Speaker Dajoh immediately ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort the suspended members out of the chamber.
In a swift move, the Speaker also appointed Audu Elias as the new spokesperson of the Assembly, replacing Alfred Berger, who previously held the position.
The suspension underscores the mounting political tension in the Assembly, where divisions over leadership and loyalty have deepened in recent weeks.
