Armed bandits on Sunday night invaded Dabagi community in Dange-Shuni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing at least three people and abducting several others during a violent raid.
The attackers, believed to be heavily armed, stormed the community under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically to create panic before abducting multiple residents and retreating into the bush.
Security analyst Bakatsine confirmed the incident in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) early Monday. “Bandits attacked Dabagi community in Dange-Shuni LGA of Sokoto State yesterday night. They killed three people and kidnapped an unspecified number of male and female residents,” the post read.
Eyewitnesses say the assailants operated without any form of resistance for several minutes, terrorizing the community before escaping with their captives.
“They came in large numbers and started shooting,” a resident told reporters. “Three people were killed instantly, and they went away with several men and women.”
The full number of abducted persons remains unclear as of the time of reporting, and local authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The attack adds to the rising insecurity in Sokoto State and the broader northwest region, where communities have repeatedly been targeted by armed groups involved in kidnapping for ransom and rural violence.
