Ayo Maff Says Fireboy Collaboration Changed His Life: “Without Him, There’s No Ayo Maff”

Fast-rising Nigerian street-pop sensation Ayo Maff is reflecting on the moment that changed everything for him — his breakout collaboration with Fireboy DML.

In a recent appearance on Trending, Ayo Maff opened up about how the remix of his hit single “Dealer” featuring Fireboy became the turning point in his career.

“Without Fireboy, there would be no Ayo Maff. He gave me exactly what I needed at that moment. So, thank God—and thank you to Fireboy,” he said.

The collaboration, which dropped in 2024, was a massive commercial success, going on to become the most-streamed song on Spotify Nigeria that year. It introduced Ayo Maff to a wider audience and established him as one of the new faces shaping the future of Nigerian street music.

A Surprising Co-Sign

According to Ayo Maff, Fireboy’s involvement came as a complete surprise.

“I never expected him to hop on it,” he admitted. “It just happened—and everything changed after that.”

The success of “Dealer (Remix)” didn’t just bring fame; it also earned Ayo Maff a Headies nomination for the coveted Next Rated award and opened doors to even bigger stages.

Rising Star Status

Since the remix, Ayo Maff’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. He opened for Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star Asake at the iconic O2 Arena in London—a moment he says he had visualized long before it happened.

His music, grounded in the gritty realities of street life—touching on themes like police brutality, poverty, and survival—has struck a chord with listeners across Nigeria and beyond.

Now, with the industry’s spotlight firmly on him, Ayo Maff is gearing up for the release of his debut album, titled “The Prince of The Street.” The project is expected to showcase his journey, sound, and vision as one of the leading voices in a new wave of Nigerian street music.

Spotify has already named him one of the top artists to watch in 2025, and if his trajectory continues, Ayo Maff might just live up to his self-proclaimed title.
