Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai, Amaechi and Other Coalition Leaders Gather in Abuja

A high-level gathering took place this Wednesday at Abuja’s Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, as prominent opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi converged to launch a united front against the ruling APC via the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

In attendance were also former Senate President David Mark, who recently resigned from PDP, alongside Rauf Aregbesola, confirmed as Interim National Secretary, and other key figures including Dino Melaye, Dele Momodu, and Ireti Kingibe.

The coalition unites stakeholders from PDP, LP, SDP, and other regional movements under ADC’s umbrella, aiming to provide a viable alternative for the 2027 presidential elections.

Analysts like Dr. Okey Ikechukwu have raised concerns about the coalition’s structural readiness. He noted the absence of grassroots coordination, unresolved zoning issues, and individual ambitions as potential obstacles to cohesion .

Coalition planners responded, asserting that appointing seasoned administrators like Mark and Aregbesola helps bridge regional divides and build operational capacity. The next step involves formalizing ADC as their 2027 election vehicle while pursuing INEC registration of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) coalition .

Public attention is now shifting to how this coalition will translate elite-level alignment into grassroots political momentum. With major national actors involved, all eyes are on ADC’s ability to navigate internal dynamics and present a credible challenge to the APC.
