Arsenal Make Ademola Lookman Top Summer Target, Overtaking Nico Williams in Transfer Plans

Arsenal have identified Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman as their primary transfer target this summer, moving ahead of long-term interest in Athletic Club winger Nico Williams as they seek to reinforce their attacking options.
The Nigeria international has enjoyed a standout campaign, tallying 18 goals and seven assists in 37 appearances. His consistent performances over three seasons under Gian Piero Gasperini have fueled speculation that he will leave the Bergamo-based club this summer.
Arsenal are reportedly one of five Premier League clubs—alongside Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle United—set to hold discussions with the 27-year-old. Lookman’s resurgence in Italy, including a historic hat-trick in last season’s Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, has attracted attention from across Europe.
Previously, Lookman struggled to make a lasting impact during stints with Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City, managing just 11 goals in 96 appearances. Since joining Atalanta, however, he has scored 50 goals in 115 matches across all competitions, cementing his status as one of Serie A’s top forwards.
Barcelona and Juventus have also expressed interest, but financial limitations could prevent either club from meeting Atalanta’s reported €60–65 million asking price. That may clear the path for Lookman’s potential return to the Premier League.
A successful bid for Lookman would likely end Arsenal’s pursuit of Spanish international Nico Williams, who has been on their radar for over a year. Both players operate primarily from the left wing, a position already occupied at the Emirates by Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, making it unlikely Arsenal will sign both.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are reportedly weighing a possible swap deal involving Danish striker Rasmus Højlund in a bid to bring Lookman to Old Trafford, amid their ongoing struggles in front of goal.
