APC’s Maikalangu Wins AMAC Chairmanship Election

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Christopher Maikalangu, has been declared winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result at its AMAC area office in Karu at about 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The Collation Officer for AMAC, Andrew Abue, declared Maikalangu — the incumbent chairman — duly elected after securing the highest number of votes cast in the poll.

“Christopher Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Abue stated.

According to the official results, Maikalangu polled 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Paul Ogidi, came second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dantani Zanda, garnered 3,398 votes.

INEC disclosed that 2,336 votes were rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 65,197. Out of 837,338 registered voters in AMAC, 65,676 voters were accredited for the election.

The breakdown of votes scored by other candidates is as follows:

  • Agbon Vaniah (Accord) – 403 votes

  • Nemiebika Tamunomiesam (Action Alliance) – 108 votes

  • Richard Elizabeth (Action Democratic Party) – 588 votes

  • Eze Chukwu (All Progressives Grand Alliance) – 1,111 votes

  • Chukwu Promise (Allied Peoples Movement) – 122 votes

  • Ugoh Michael (Action Peoples Party) – 32 votes

  • Thomas Happiness (Boot Party) – 43 votes

  • Jibrin Alhassan (New Nigeria Peoples Party) – 1,694 votes

  • Samson Usani (National Rescue Movement) – 73 votes

  • Iber Shimakaha (Peoples Redemption Party) – 90 votes

  • Simon Obinna (Social Democratic Party) – 2,185 votes

  • Madaki Robert (Young Progressives Party) – 421 votes

  • Swani Buba (Zenith Labour Party) – 189 votes

Maikalangu’s victory secures a renewed mandate for the APC in the nation’s capital municipal council, following what INEC described as a duly conducted electoral process.
