The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally received Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, into the party, describing the development as historic and a significant boost to the ruling party’s expanding national influence and unifying appeal.
At a reception held in honour of the governor and other defecting leaders, the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, said Governor Muftwang’s decision went beyond a mere political realignment, noting that it marked a collective commitment to peace, stability, and sustainable progress in Plateau State.
Yilwatda disclosed that following the governor’s defection, major political actors and structures from other parties across the state had collapsed into the APC, effectively positioning the party as the dominant political platform in Plateau.
“Today, my joy knows no bounds. This convergence is a clear demonstration of the confidence the people have in the APC as a party of unity and action. Plateau State is now firmly set on the path of political stability and shared purpose,” he said.
He emphasised that the party’s objective was neither intimidation nor exclusion, but responsible leadership anchored on unity, peace, and development.
“Our coming together is not driven by sentiment. It is about moving Plateau State in the right direction. Unity breeds peace, and peace remains the foundation of development. With this renewed sense of togetherness, peace will permeate every community across Plateau State,” Yilwatda added.
The APC chairman said the party’s enduring strength lies in its ability to unite Nigerians across political, ethnic, and religious divides, noting that the party’s broom symbol reflects its resolve to sweep away division, discord, and political fragmentation.
He also highlighted the APC’s growing national footprint, stating that the party currently governs 29 states, with strong prospects for further expansion in the near future.
Yilwatda attributed this growth to the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as a reformer committed to economic stability, institutional reform, and national development.
“Before President Tinubu assumed office, nearly 30 states were grappling with unpaid salaries. Today, states are meeting their salary obligations, and there is renewed capacity for infrastructure development across the federation,” he said.
The APC national chairman assured Governor Muftwang of the party’s full support, expressing confidence that he would earn a second term in office based on performance, unity, and the support of the people.
He concluded by calling on remaining political stakeholders in Plateau State to join the APC, describing the party as a platform of inclusion, opportunity, and sustainable development.
