Lagos APC says digital membership drive will strengthen internal democracy, eliminate manipulation, and position party for future elections
The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the ongoing party e-registration exercise as a compulsory and critical reform, insisting that it is neither optional nor symbolic but central to the party’s structure, discipline, and future electoral success.
The party made the position known in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, as the digital registration exercise officially commenced across the state. The exercise, according to the party, will run until the end of January, allowing adequate time for both existing and new members to be captured in the party’s digital membership register.
The Lagos APC said the move reflects its commitment to reform and adaptation in a rapidly evolving democratic environment, noting that political parties that fail to embrace reform often decline. It added that the e-registration exercise represents a deliberate shift towards order, transparency, and credible internal processes.
According to the party, the digital registration will guarantee the integrity of its membership database by eliminating duplication, impersonation, and informal or shadow membership arrangements that weaken party cohesion. It stressed that every member must be identifiable, verifiable, and properly documented in line with modern political standards.
The APC also said the exercise provides equal opportunity for all members, regardless of status or length of membership, to secure a clear and undisputed place within the party. It noted that the process removes gatekeeping structures and reinforces the principle that the party belongs collectively to its members and is governed strictly by its constitution.
The party further stated that the registration exercise reflects its openness to the growing number of Nigerians joining its ranks, describing the APC as an expanding political movement rather than a closed organisation.
Beyond administrative efficiency, the Lagos APC said the exercise is fundamental to strengthening internal democracy within the party. It noted that credible congresses, transparent primaries, and legitimate leadership selection processes depend on a reliable and comprehensive digital membership register.
The party also described the e-registration as a strategic mobilisation tool, particularly for youths, professionals, and first-time political participants who value efficiency and clarity. It said the adoption of technology demonstrates the APC’s alignment with modern political organisation and engagement.
In addition, the party said a data-driven membership system would improve its electoral preparedness and governance capacity by enhancing grassroots coordination, refining campaign strategies, and maintaining continuous engagement with members.
The Lagos APC expressed confidence that the outcome of the exercise would further consolidate the party’s dominance nationwide, supported by a verifiable membership base and a structured presence across the country. It contrasted this with what it described as opposition parties whose claims of strength, it said, lack measurable electoral backing.
The party urged all members and stakeholders to participate fully in the exercise within the registration window, describing participation as a collective responsibility. It warned that indifference undermines both the party and the progressive ideals it represents.
Reaffirming its commitment to reform and expansion, the APC said the e-registration exercise signals its resolve not to be constrained by inertia or resistance to change, adding that it remains focused on building a stronger, fairer, and future-ready political institution.
