Akwa Ibom Gov Empowers 540 Constituents with ₦250m Support Grants
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has disbursed ₦250 million to empower over 540 residents of the Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, in line with his administration’s ARISE Agenda for inclusive development.

The governor made the announcement during a Town-Square Meeting with constituents from Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin, and Eastern Obolo local government areas on Thursday.

“We have returned to say ‘thank you,’ and not just in words but with actions—roads, schools, water projects, and now empowerment,” Eno said.

The initiative covers trade support, agricultural grants, equipment provision, and backing for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Beneficiaries were selected through an open application portal, emphasizing fairness and transparency rather than political affiliation.

Highlighting rural development achievements, the governor cited:

Construction of dual-carriage roads linking rural areas

Provision of water facilities, schools, and hospitals

Grants to support self-sufficiency among farmers and traders

Eno also received a “Needs Assessment Document” from the constituency, which will inform the state’s 2026 budget, reinforcing his commitment to participatory governance.

“We want everyone—regardless of party—to feel included. We’re not doing this on a party basis, but because it is your right as Akwa Ibomites,” he said.

He urged unity ahead of the 2027 elections, throwing his support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and his own second-term bid.

Secretary to the State Government Enobong Uwah described the town hall as a vital opportunity for direct citizen engagement, while Uwem Okoko, political leader of Ikot Abasi LGA, expressed gratitude for the government’s attention to the constituency’s infrastructure needs—particularly the restoration of steady electricity.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of cheques to beneficiaries, symbolizing the administration’s hands-on approach to economic empowerment.
