Akpabio Returns from London, Debunks Health Rumours: “I’m Fit as a Fiddle”

President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has returned to the country after a brief private visit to London, firmly denying speculations about his health.

Touching down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja around 4:00 a.m. on Monday, Akpabio was warmly received at the presidential wing by a delegation of senators, aides, and enthusiastic supporters.

Speaking to journalists on arrival, the Senate President dismissed rumours that he had been hospitalised during his time abroad.

“There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle,” Akpabio said. “I only stopped over in London for a short vacation.”

Before heading to the UK, Akpabio participated in the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament held in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 29 to 31, 2025. He then proceeded to London for what aides described as a “well-deserved break.”

The brief absence had sparked unconfirmed reports about the Senate President’s health, but his return and public appearance appear to have put the rumours to rest.

Looking ahead, Akpabio assured that the Senate is poised for “stronger legislative engagement” once plenary sessions resume.
