Ajibade, Plumptre Named in WAFCON 2024 Group Stage Best XI

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and defender Ashleigh Plumptre have both earned spots in the Group Stage Best XI of the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The pair have been instrumental in the Super Falcons’ strong showing during the opening phase of the tournament.

Plumptre, who featured in Nigeria’s first two group matches against Tunisia and Botswana, impressed observers with her calm presence and defensive resilience.

Ajibade, meanwhile, has exemplified leadership throughout the group stage, playing every minute across all three matches for Nigeria.

The 25-year-old has been pivotal in linking the midfield to the attack with her energetic forward runs. She was recognized for her outstanding performance as she claimed the Woman of the Match award in Nigeria’s narrow 1-0 win over Botswana’s Mares.

Up next, the Super Falcons are set to take on the Copper Queens of Zambia in the quarter-final round of WAFCON 2024.

The fixture is scheduled to be played on Friday at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, with kick-off set for 5 p.m. Nigerian time.
