Air Peace Halts Nationwide Flights Amid NiMet Workers’ Strike

Air Peace has announced the immediate suspension of all its flight operations across Nigeria due to the ongoing industrial action by staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

In a statement released on Wednesday, the airline cited the unavailability of critical meteorological data—particularly QNH reports, which are essential for ensuring safe aircraft landings—as a major factor behind the decision.

“The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority. Given the ongoing NiMet strike and the resulting unavailability of QNH (hazardous weather) data, we have made the difficult decision to suspend all flight operations nationwide until the situation is resolved,” the statement read.

The airline had earlier warned that the strike could cause significant disruptions across its network, including delays and cancellations. It now says it is actively engaging with relevant authorities to closely monitor developments and mitigate the impact on travelers.

The strike action, launched by NiMet employees today, stems from unresolved welfare-related issues. Grievances include the agency’s failure to implement previously agreed financial entitlements—such as wage awards and peculiar allowances—as well as outstanding payments dating back to the 2019 minimum wage adjustment.

Striking workers have also raised concerns about the exclusion of some staff from past disbursements, the withholding of key internal documents, and the agency’s prioritization of executive retreats over critical staff training programs.

Air Peace assured its customers that operations will resume as soon as conditions permit and thanked them for their patience and understanding during this period.
