AI and Innovation Key to Solving Africa’s Energy Crisis – NLNG Deputy MD

Nigeria LNG Limited has called on African nations to embrace artificial intelligence and digital innovation as essential tools for bridging the continent’s vast energy access gap and driving inclusive development.

Speaking at the 2025 Africa Energy Technology Conference in Accra, Ghana, the Deputy Managing Director of NLNG, Olakunle Osobu, urged both government and private sector stakeholders to adopt bold, transformative approaches in modernizing Africa’s energy landscape.

Delivering a keynote address titled “The AI-Powered Energy Revolution: Digital Transformation for Africa’s Future,” Osobu emphasized that technology particularly AI must be placed at the center of the continent’s energy transition efforts.

“Africa is home to over 600 million people who still lack access to reliable electricity,” he said. “That is not just an energy crisis it’s a development emergency. With our youthful population and rich natural resources, Africa has the potential to lead the global energy future if we build smarter, more inclusive systems now.”

Osobu warned that ambition alone would not deliver the transformation Africa needs. He stressed that coordinated leadership, sound policy direction, and an unwavering commitment to equity are critical to ensuring progress reaches all corners of the continent.

He also urged policymakers to see energy not just as a commodity, but as a platform for national and economic advancement a foundation upon which broader development goals can be achieved.
