Agege LG Partners Kunle Afolayan to Train Youths in Film, Music, Podcasting

Agege Local Government has sealed a partnership with acclaimed filmmaker Kunle Afolayan to equip young people in the community with practical skills in the creative industry.
The initiative, spearheaded by the council chairman, Ganiyu Obasa, is designed to provide hands-on training in film production, music, and podcasting. The goal is to empower youths with the knowledge and exposure needed to build sustainable careers in the creative sector.
Obasa, accompanied by the vice chairman, council manager, and members of the management team, visited Afolayan to outline a roadmap for collaboration focused on talent development within the local government area.
According to the chairman, the programme will identify promising creatives in Agege and nurture their skills through structured mentorship and professional opportunities. Participants may also feature in established productions, giving them exposure beyond the local stage.
“Our discussions focused on building a strong partnership to create real platforms where young people can find their footing, develop their skills, and confidently explore their creativity within the film and creative industry,” Obasa stated in a post on X.
He added that the initiative will emphasise originality, discipline, and long-term growth to ensure participants remain competitive nationally and internationally.
“This is about opening doors, creating pathways, and ensuring Agege youths are prepared to compete and thrive on bigger stages,” he wrote.
The collaboration signals a broader push to harness the economic potential of Nigeria’s creative industry while investing in grassroots talent development.
