In Benue State, armed herders mounted a deadly attack on Udei, Guma LGA, resulting in the deaths of four mobile police officers on Sunday afternoon.
According to local sources, the police were deployed to support villagers when they came under sudden assault.
Residents said the attackers advanced rapidly; despite dispatching reinforcements, police were overwhelmed and fatally shot.
The violence follows another massacre in nearby Yelewata community just two weeks ago, where over 100 civilians were killed.
Benue has become the epicenter of escalating herder‑farmer clashes characterized by violent reprisal attacks driven by competition over land and resources.
Authorities have launched investigations, but critics argue that security forces are hamstrung by poor coordination and a lack of structural strategy .
Residents are now demanding immediate military support and swift legal action to bring perpetrators to justice.
