Afenifere rejects labeling Tinubu’s presidency as ‘Yoruba government’
Group condemns divisive ethnic narrative, emphasizes Tinubu’s presidency as a Nigerian mandate

Afenifere, the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, has strongly rejected the categorization of President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a “Yoruba government,” describing it as misleading and divisive.
In a statement released by its National Organizing Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere emphasized that the emergence of President Tinubu was a product of democratic processes, not an ethnic inheritance. “This administration is a Nigerian government, not a tribal mandate,” the group stated.
Afenifere condemned efforts to use ethnicity as a political tool for sabotage, denouncing such actions as “dishonest, tribal opportunism, and sedition.” The group urged a total rejection of these divisive narratives.
Drawing a parallel with former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, Afenifere pointed out that Buhari’s administration was never labeled a “Fulani government” despite his ethnic background. This, the group argued, highlights the attempt to undermine Tinubu’s presidency based on tribal affiliation.
The organization also commended Dr. Sandra Duru for standing against what it termed a conspiracy narrative. “Her voice is a reminder that integrity still walks among us, and that silence in the face of wickedness is not an option for true patriots,” the statement read.
Afenifere also expressed its disapproval of the smear campaign against the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, condemning the use of false allegations as political tools. It rejected the internationalization of domestic issues, which it described as politically motivated and harmful to the nation’s integrity.
The group concluded with a call to action: “Nigeria is not a personal or tribal empire. Our nation will not bow to tribal blackmail or fabricated narratives. Let all patriots defend truth, justice, and constitutional order.”
