Former Ghana national team coach, Claude Le Roy, has publicly identified the two teams he believes are the front-runners to clinch the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title. The highly anticipated tournament is scheduled to begin later this month and will conclude in January of next year.
Speaking in an interview with Canal +, Le Roy firmly stated that Morocco and Nigeria stand out as the primary favorites to lift the AFCON trophy.
It is worth noting that Ivory Coast are the current reigning champions, having secured victory in the last edition of the competition. They claimed the trophy on home soil after defeating Nigeria’s Super Eagles 2-1 in the final match.
When discussing the prospects for the 2025 AFCON, Le Roy provided his clear prediction:
“So yes Nigeria remains one of the favourites for the AFCON after Morocco.”
Nigeria begins its 2025 AFCON campaign with its first group stage match against Tanzania, while Morocco, which is hosting the tournament, will face Comoros in its opening fixture.
