Akpabio Praises Lado’s Role in Strengthening Executive-Legislature Relations

On Thursday, the President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for maintaining a seamless communication channel with the Senate since the appointment of Senator Basheer Lado as Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate). Akpabio noted that there have been no instances of leakage of presidential communication to the Senate since Lado’s appointment, highlighting the exemplary service and commitment he has brought to the position.

Akpabio made the remarks during a visit to the Office of the Special Adviser, emphasizing that Lado’s role in fostering trust and confidence between the executive and the legislature had been instrumental in improving government operations. He further praised President Tinubu for his strategic appointment of Lado, noting that it was a step in the right direction for strengthening the relationship between the presidency and the Senate.

“I want to put on record that since Senator Lado’s assumption of office as Special Adviser, we have not had a single leakage of private communication between the presidency and the Senate,” Akpabio said. He underscored the importance of protecting confidential government information, warning that leaks of such information can negatively impact national security.

Akpabio also commended the involvement of key Kano indigenes in the current administration, including Lado, Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, and the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Umar Abdullahi Ganduje. He described their participation as critical in securing Kano for the APC in the 2027 general election.

Lado, a former Senator himself, was lauded by Akpabio for his efforts to strengthen the executive-legislature relationship in the past eight months. Akpabio specifically highlighted Lado’s efficient tracking of bills and his role in ensuring that bills assented to by the President were promptly brought to the attention of the legislature.

In his response, Senator Lado expressed gratitude for the Senate President’s support, assuring him that he remains a dependable ally. He emphasized that the harmony between the executive and legislature, as exemplified by their collaboration, serves as a testament to the power of unity and shared vision in governance.

“The strength of shared vision, the boundless possibilities when leadership is anchored on service, is the foundation of our cooperation,” Lado said, further solidifying the commitment to working together for the betterment of the country.

This show of unity between the executive and legislature highlights the growing synergy within Nigeria’s government as it seeks to deliver on its promises of progress and stability.
