The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, has announced the cancellation of the traditional Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebration due to prevailing security concerns in the state.
In a statement made at his Nasarawa Mini Palace on Wednesday night, Emir Bayero emphasized that the safety and peaceful coexistence of the people are of utmost priority over the festivities. The Durbar, which would have coincided with the Emir’s fifth anniversary on the throne, was initially planned as a major cultural event.
The decision to cancel the celebration followed consultations with Islamic scholars, elders, stakeholders, and members of his council, all of whom advised that maintaining peace was more important than going ahead with the event.
Emir Bayero encouraged the people of Kano to focus on visiting family and friends during the Sallah celebration, urging them to observe the festive period in a peaceful and harmonious manner. He also offered prayers for Allah’s blessings and mercy, hoping that the people of Kano would be granted forgiveness during the holy month of Ramadan.
