The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to intensifying operations against bandits, emphasizing that their goal is to eradicate the criminal groups and restore peace to the country.
Lt Gen. Oluyede made the declaration on Wednesday during an operational visit to the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Natsinta, Katsina, where he was received by Brig Gen Babatunde Omopariola, the Brigade Commander.
During his visit, the Army Chief outlined the purpose of his trip: to assess the Brigade’s operations, address any challenges they may be facing, and provide the necessary support to enhance their effectiveness in combating banditry.
He commended the Brigade for their progress, noting that the troops had achieved significant successes in their efforts so far. However, he urged them to push harder in order to eliminate banditry from the state, making it a safer place for residents.
“The Brigade has been doing well, but I have come here to urge them to do more,” Lt Gen. Oluyede stated. “We must eliminate these bandits from Katsina to ensure a safer environment for our people.”
Reiterating the Army’s core responsibility to protect the nation, he emphasized the importance of continuing the fight until all bandits are removed from the area. “Our job as soldiers is to defend Nigeria, and that includes making sure these bandits are wiped out so Nigerians can live in peace,” he said.
Lt Gen. Oluyede’s visit to Katsina is a clear message of resolve in the ongoing effort to restore security and peace to regions affected by banditry.
