Court Grants Bail to House Rep Alex Ikwechegh Amid Assault Allegations

A Kuje Magistrate Court has granted bail to Alex Ikwechegh, the embattled House of Representatives member representing Aba North and South, set at N500,000.

Ikwechegh was arraigned for allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, outside his Abuja residence.

The charges against him include abuse of office, assault, and threats to life. In his ruling on Wednesday, Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’id expressed his intention to grant the defendant’s bail application, leading to the decision.

Bail was granted under the condition that Ikwechegh provide two sureties, each in the same amount. The court emphasized that the sureties must reside within its jurisdiction and provide utility bills as proof of residence.

The case is set to continue on November 8 for trial.
