‘No Man Can Break My Heart at My Age’ — Mo Abudu Tells Women to Walk Away From Rejection

Media entrepreneur Mo Abudu has shared her views on heartbreak and relationships, saying she would be more likely to cry over work than over a man at her age.

Abudu, 62, made the remarks during an interview with media personality Toke Makinwa, where she dismissed the idea of allowing a romantic relationship to cause her emotional distress.

“Heartbreak. Nobody can break my heart. It’s not possible. Heartbreak. There’s no such thing as heartbreak at my age. If I cry, it’s not because of a man. It may be because of my work,” she said.

The media mogul also urged women to recognise when a partner is unwilling to commit and avoid trying to persuade someone to remain in a relationship against their wishes.

According to her, a person who genuinely wants to be in a relationship will make that choice, while someone who does not should be allowed to leave.

“Listen, you cannot make a man be in a relationship with you. If he wants to be, he will. If he doesn’t want to be in it, he’s kidding you. Leave him. Move on. He doesn’t want to be there,” Abudu said.

She cautioned women against compromising their self-worth to retain a partner, warning that remaining in an unfulfilling relationship can come at an emotional cost.

“You have to get over it, because you need to read the writing, guys. It is easy. Because don’t downgrade yourself in front of anybody. And to young girls, don’t downgrade yourself,” she said.

Abudu further advised women to pay attention to signs of disinterest, including prolonged periods without communication and being ignored by a partner.

She questioned why women should continue investing in relationships when their partners repeatedly fail to show interest or make themselves available.

“If you see those kinds of people, leave them alone. Those types of people don’t want you. Please, ladies,” she added.

Her comments centred on self-respect, emotional independence and the importance of recognising when a relationship is no longer mutual.

Abudu, the founder of EbonyLife Media, is a prominent figure in Africa’s film and television industry.
