The Nigerian Air Force has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the aircraft crash that claimed the lives of its personnel in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, who visited the crash site on Thursday, affirmed that the cause of the incident would be thoroughly investigated, stressing that it was too early to draw conclusions on what led to the crash.
Aneke said investigators and aviation experts would examine the aircraft wreckage and other available evidence to establish exactly what happened. He also cautioned against speculation, insisting that the investigation must get to the root of the incident.
The Air Force chief further affirmed that the recovery of the wreckage would be central to the investigation, assuring Nigerians that every effort would be made to establish the facts and identify measures to prevent a recurrence.
Aneke described the deaths as a major loss to the Nigerian Air Force and the affected families, while affirming the service’s commitment to supporting the bereaved families and ensuring the welfare of the victims’ children.
