Gunmen Kill Expatriate, Two Others in Kebbi Construction Site Attack

At least three people, including an expatriate and two security operatives, have been killed in an attack on the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway construction project in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Two other civilians sustained gunshot injuries during the attack at a construction site in Gubba Village, Andarai District.

The Kebbi State Police Command said the attackers, suspected to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group, allegedly crossed from the Kebbe axis of neighbouring Sokoto State before targeting the construction site.

Police spokesperson, Superintendent Bashir Usman, said the victims included two security personnel and a foreign national working on the road project, while the injured civilians were evacuated for medical treatment.

The police also reported a separate attack by the suspected terrorists along the Birnin Malam axis on the same day, which was repelled by security operatives.

Joint security forces were subsequently deployed to the affected areas, with tactical teams mobilised to reinforce existing security and prevent further attacks.

The police said military personnel neutralised scores of the attackers during the operations, while several motorcycles were recovered.

Construction activities at the affected site have since been suspended as security agencies intensify surveillance and reinforce their presence in the area.

The police assured workers and contractors on the project of continued protection, while urging them to remain calm as efforts to secure the area continue.

The attack comes amid growing security concerns in parts of Kebbi State. Governor Nasir Idris recently visited Jandutsi and other communities around Gubba to sympathise with residents affected by recent attacks and reaffirm his administration’s commitment to strengthening security and protecting vulnerable communities.
