The death toll from the suspected herbal concoction incident in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State has risen to 27.
Residents of Araromi Obu and Odigbo town reportedly fell ill after consuming suspected herbal drinks and other substances, with 24 deaths initially recorded.
Chairman of Odigbo LGA, Taiwo Adegoroye, confirmed that the number had risen to 27, with eight deaths in Araromi Obu and 19 in Odigbo town.
He said the situation had since subsided following the intervention of medical teams from the state and local governments.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Government has warned residents against consuming unapproved herbal drinks, concoctions and other substances not certified safe.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, urged residents to exercise caution and avoid products of doubtful origin as investigations continue to determine the cause of the deaths.
The government appealed for calm and urged residents to report the production or sale of dangerous and unapproved substances to the authorities.
