Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has recalled an unusual experience from his early years, revealing that he was once paid to pretend to have a physical disability during a church healing service.
Solade made the disclosure in an interview with Feel Right TV, where he spoke about some of the experiences he had before becoming a recognised actor.
According to the actor, he was approached to participate in what he described as a staged miracle, with his role being to act as a cripple during the service.
He said the incident happened while he was still a student and had yet to establish himself in the Nigerian film industry.
“I have been used for miracle then, when I was not popular. I acted as a cripple, they paid, I used the money to drink, then I was a student,” Solade said.
The actor, however, declined to reveal the identities of those who allegedly recruited him, saying they are still alive.
“The people involved are still alive; I just don’t want to mention names,” he said.
Solade’s account sheds light on one of the unconventional experiences he encountered while trying to make ends meet before gaining prominence in both Yoruba and English-language films.
The veteran actor has built a career spanning decades, becoming one of the familiar faces in Nigerian film and television.
