Preparations for the 2027 governorship elections have intensified as the African Democratic Congress, ADC, names its candidates for 28 states.
The party said the candidates were selected to provide what it described as credible leadership and a “real alternative” to Nigerians.
“These men and women will carry the ADC banner and our commitment to offer Nigerians credible leadership and a real alternative”, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, wrote in a post on X on Friday.
Among the prominent names on the list are Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour for Lagos, Isa Mohammed Ashiru for Kaduna, Great Ogboru for Delta, Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita for Katsina and former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, for Kebbi.
Other states covered are Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed February 6, 2027, for the governorship and state House of Assembly elections, while the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16.
The ADC candidates and their running mates are Kalu Kalu Agu and Alozie Ogadinma Darlington in Abia; Modibbo Hammantukur Ribadu and Aguwa Kevin Iliya in Adamawa; Akpanudoedehe John James and Nsien Mkpombuk Tommy in Akwa Ibom; and Senator Halliru Dauda Jika and Sama’ila Mohammed Kabir in Bauchi.
In Benue, the party fielded Herman Iorwase Hembe and Abba John Abba, while Babagana Buhari and Mamman Dauda will contest in Borno. Cross River has Nkoyo Toyo and Okwoche Andrew Adagbor, while Great Ogboru and Afiari Gloria are the candidates for Delta.
Ukpai Mba Udeh and Onwe Daniel Ede will contest in Ebonyi, while Ocho Obodoeze Chukwuma and Eze Arinze Christopher will represent the party in Enugu. Bala Bello and Bala Sani Isa are the candidates in Gombe, while Sabo Mohammed Nakudu and Musa Ya’u Balarabe will fly the party’s flag in Jigawa.
In Kaduna, the ADC is fielding Isa Mohammed Ashiru and Kantiok Irmiya Ishaku. Ibrahim Ali Amin and Shehu Abdulkadir Bari will contest in Kano, while Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita and Aminu Yar’adua Ahmed are the candidates in Katsina.
Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, is the ADC governorship candidate in Kebbi, alongside Zagi Musa Mohammed. Zakari Mohammed and Olawuyi Julius Olayide will contest in Kwara, while Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and Gbadamosi Babatunde Olalere are the candidates in Lagos.
Nuhu Angbazo and Ahmed Yusuf will represent the party in Nasarawa, while Mohammed Kpautagi and Musa Mamman will contest in Niger. Biodun Collins Ogundipe and Muraina Oluwaranti Oluyemi are the candidates in Ogun.
In Oyo, the ADC is fielding Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke and Wahab Adeniyi, while Brigadier General John Sunday Sura and Pwajok-Kele Chundung Bitrus will contest in Plateau.
Gabriel Pidomson and Okumgba David Amapakaye are the party’s candidates in Rivers; Manir Mohammad Daniya and Isah Bello Ambarura in Sokoto; Abubakar Umar Tutare and Kwetishe Haruna Kwenyan in Taraba, Kassim G. Gaidam and Kori Lawan Mohammed in Yobe, and Shinkafi Bilyaminu Yusuf and Muhammad Abdulmuddalib Auwal in Zamfara.
