The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has disowned a circulating message announcing an alleged Education Support Fund for Master of Science (MSc) students, describing the information as false and unauthorised.
In a press statement signed by the Management Commission dated September 4, 2026, the NEDC warned members of the public, prospective applicants and other stakeholders against acting on the information currently circulating on social media and other platforms.
According to NEDC, the purported programme includes claims about requirements for applicants and a submission point at the Commission’s office in Polo, Maiduguri.
The Commission categorically stated that the information is “false and unauthorised”, stressing that it is not currently receiving applications for any MSc Education Support Fund as contained in the circulating message.
NEDC consequently urged members of the public to completely disregard the purported programme and warned them against submitting sensitive personal documents to individuals or locations claiming to represent the Commission.
It specifically listed documents such as National Identification Number (NIN) slips, admission letters, identity cards and indigene certificates among the documents members of the public should not surrender to persons linked to the alleged scheme.
The Commission further cautioned the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes and the unauthorised use of the name and identity of NEDC to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
“For authentic information on NEDC programmes, interventions and opportunities, members of the public should rely only on official NEDC communication channels and verified announcements from the Commission,” the statement said.
The warning comes amid the circulation of purported application information for the alleged MSc support programme, with NEDC urging prospective beneficiaries to verify any scholarship, education support or intervention announcement through its official channels before taking action.
