Ahead of the 2027 general elections, NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged Nigerians to take an active role in protecting their votes, assuring supporters that intimidation would not be allowed at polling units.
Obi made the call on Thursday during a town hall meeting with voters in Port Harcourt, where he said the 2027 elections would be harder to manipulate than the 2023 polls.
He said voters must remain coordinated at polling units, noting that the small number of election officials would make it difficult to intimidate large numbers of voters.
Obi also expressed concerns over possible technical problems with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing Portal, IReV, promising that the party would have measures in place to address such challenges.
Meanwhile, NDC vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso urged Nigerians to elect leaders with the experience and capacity to tackle the country’s challenges.
Kwankwaso said the number of states controlled by a political party does not guarantee victory in a presidential election, citing the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 despite being an incumbent.
In Rivers State, the party’s governorship candidate, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, pledged to work towards building a Nigeria that works for its citizens and urged supporters to remain committed to the political process.
