Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, has urged the Falconets to maintain their winning momentum when they face Korea Republic in their final friendly on Tuesday.
Nigeria’s U-20 women defeated hosts Poland 1-0 in Brzeg on August 28, with Mary Mamudu scoring in first-half stoppage time to secure a confidence-boosting victory ahead of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Coach Moses Aduku’s side protected their advantage after the break to complete the narrow win over the tournament hosts.
The Falconets will now meet Korea Republic at the Remes Sports Leisure and Spa Stadium in their final preparation match before turning their attention to the World Cup.
Ikpeme commended the team for their performance against Poland and encouraged the players to build on the result.
“You did very well in your friendly match against the host nation, by holding your own and eventually emerging victorious. The NFF and the entire Nigerian nation are proud of you,” he said.
“The victory over Poland has instilled a win-mentality in you, and another victory over Korea Republic on Tuesday will sustain that mindset, enabling you to confront the challenges of the group phase of the World Cup with the needed confidence and vibrancy. I urge you to go for outright victory against the Koreans.”
Two-time runners-up Nigeria will compete in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia.
The Falconets begin their campaign against Spain on September 7, followed by matches against China PR on September 10 and New Caledonia on September 13.
The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place in Poland from September 5 to 27.
